Sometimes I find it hard to put into words why I shoot boudoir. To me, it is so much more than photos. It’s about acceptance, body positivity and art. It is about getting glammed up and laughing your butt off. It’s about the transformation that takes place between the time you walk in my studio and to when you walk out that door. It about feeling beautiful and giving your self permission to feel like a badass. It is something I believe everyone deserves.
I started shooting boudoir photography because I saw something beautiful in every woman I met. Women tell me they feel like they can’t look beautiful because they are too tall, weight too much, have too many stretch marks, I called BULLSHIT! I became obsessed with showing women what I saw. A gorgeous goddess just asking for permission to shine her brightest. The transformation is incredible.
I get to help women feel empowered, find their true love for themselves and have more body positive outlook, crushing the bullying thoughts of their minds. Our body’s are amazing things, let’s embrace it!
The Transformation
The transformation that takes place in our studio is the best part of the whole experience for us. When a woman arrives in my studio, most of the time she’s nervous, sometimes even visibility nervous. Shaky hands and voices, sweaty palms and faces are things I see all the time. Once they sit in that H&MU chair, the transformation begins. The client slowly starts to shed those signs and feelings of anxiousness.
The the shoot. The series is just to get us warmed up. By the 2nd or 3rd pose, they relax a little and the anxiousness starts to melt away. The smiles and the laughs come out and BAM, they are shining.
By the time we finish the session and to into the reveal, we’re BFF’s. We’ve just shared an experience that we will both always remember. We’ve laughed, shared our stories and dang, you took off half of your clothes lol.
Once I show clients their pictures on our big screen, their jaws drop. They see themselves like they never have before. Sexy, cute, fun, flirty…all the things they think they are not. This is one of the most amazing things about boudoir photography. I get the chance to show them how I see them and how their significant other or even her best girlfriends see them. When they walk out my door, they are grinning from ear to ear and can’t wait to show off the art we’ve created. It’s INCREDIBLE and so rewarding.
A little Piece of My Story
I can’t believe I do this for a living, WHAT?!?! I didn’t fully grasp the impact and transformation that boudoir could have, until several months into focusing all my attention to boudoir photography. Once I saw the way women felt after their photoshoot, I was hooked.
I grew up in a family and community of women that often shrugged off compliments and made comments about the way they or others looked. I vowed early on in life, I wouldn’t be that woman. I would guard my words (especially with my daughter) and my thoughts towards a positive body image. I had watched negative self image destroy my friends bodies at a very young age. It broke my heart. What I saw was a stunning, powerful young woman, how could they not see it? Who knew that was prepping me to walk women through their self love journey.
I couldn’t be more proud of the boudoir work get to do. I’m incredibly blessed that so many women (and couples) have entrusted me to in their transformation journey. I truly have the most amazing clients.
